Nature’s Best Market is hiring!

Assistant Manager:

The Assistant Manager is the operational co-pilot of our storefront, responsible for supporting the Store Manager in driving the financial success, daily productivity, and standards of the entire retail location. This role bridges the gap between store leadership and department leads— including Wellness, Grocery, and Foodservice—to ensure flawless inventory flow, optimal labor management, and consistent visual merchandising. A successful candidate will champion our healthy, family-focused brand by driving store-wide profitability, managing staff performance, and modeling elite customer care on the retail floor.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Store-Wide Floor Leadership: Direct the daily operations of all retail floor departments; monitor store conditions to ensure the entire location meets high standards of cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness.
Cross-Department Synergy: Partner with the Wellness Lead, Foodservice Manager, and Grocery Manager to align purchasing schedules, monitor inventory velocity, audit receiving areas, and maximize overall shelf presentation.
Team Development & Training: Support the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of floor and front-end staff; deliver constructive feedback and hold team members accountable to performance metrics.
Staff Training Facilitation: Prepare and lead monthly educational huddles for floor staff and department leads to roll out new store policies, customer service standards, or seasonal merchandising plans.
Labor Scheduling & Budgeting: Assist in building and managing employee work schedules to maximize floor coverage, manage labor costs, and hit targeted productivity goals.
Product Knowledge & Dietary Trends: Attend monthly educational seminars hosted by brand partners, distributors, or holistic experts to stay updated on grocery trends, wellness ingredients, and dietary lifestyle developments.
Financial & Shrink Oversight: Analyze daily and weekly POS sales data, evaluate gross margins, and implement store-wide loss prevention strategies to minimize shrink across all departments.
Escalated Customer Care: Proactively engage with customers on the sales floor, handle complex product inquiries, resolve complaints gracefully, and ensure compliance with DSHEA, company guidelines, and local standards.
Front-End & Cash Control: Oversee cash levels, audit cash drawers and change boxes, verify safe drops, manage transaction discrepancies, and step in to run checkout lanes during peak volume hours.
Vendor & Merchandising Strategy: Coordinate with distributors and brokers to secure strategic endcaps, execute store-wide seasonal promotional displays, and handle credit disputes.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Enforce deep ingredient compliance standards, first-in, first-out (FIFO) rotation policies, OSHA standards, and health department sanitation codes across all backrooms and sales floors.

Qualifications & Skills
Experience & Education: Completion of the Manager-in-training program required, 2+ years of retail supervisory or management experience required (preferably in a high-volume grocery, natural foods, or specialty retail environment); high school diploma required (degree in business or retail management preferred).
Operational & Analytical Mastery: Advanced proficiency in spreadsheets, navigating POS data systems, building labor schedules, and utilizing inventory control software.
Cross-Functional Product Knowledge: A strong operational understanding of center-store grocery retail alongside a foundational knowledge of wellness industry trends, health standards, and dietary lifestyles.
Leadership & Team Building: Proven track record of motivating diverse teams, delegating tasks effectively, and cultivating a high-performance, family-oriented work culture.
Communication & Conflict Resolution: Confident verbal and written communication style to negotiate with vendors and deliver staff evaluations, balanced with empathetic listening skills to defuse interpersonal or customer issues.

Must be available to work a highly flexible schedule to support total store operations, including early mornings, late closing shifts, weekends, limited holidays, and peak delivery days.

Compensation: $17-$22 an hour, FULL TIME (40+hrs). Manager-in-Training program starts at $17/hr, and increases once completed, approx. 6-12 months from there, and it is performance-driven.
